» Hats & Scarves: “I don’t have a favorite at all. I have knit/crocheted very few scarves, they are usually either granny squares or garter stitch. One of these days, I’ll make some nice ones. I also have knitted a few bias scarves that I liked. For hats, I generally crochet from the top down, increase as needed to make the size I want, and use a sc/dc pattern (sc in dc row before, and dc in the sc from the row before). For knitted hats, fair isle all the way, baby! I usually just pick some charts that fit with my cast on, knit away changing colors & charts at will…”
» Shawls & Wraps: “I have a Bernat Big Book of Shawls, from the 60’s. My favorite patterns are in there - it’s both knit and crochet. I also love the shawl pattern from the Odd Ball knitting book. A crochet shawl pattern I’ve used often is the half granny square.”
» Hands & Feet: “I love anything from Sensational Knitted Socks. My favorite online pattern - or the one I’ve used the most - is Broadripple. For hands, I usually use Ann Budd’s book, which is slipping my mind at the moment.”

Thank you everyone for sharing your favorites with me! Not only was I able to look at some old favorites, like the Irish Hiking Scarf that so many love, but I found some new favorites to add to my constantly growing list of things to do. This was a whole lot of fun for me and, I hope, a worthwhile project for everyone. Enjoy finding a pattern for your next project and thank you again!

I know I procrastinated too long for the contest, but in case you still want them for your pattern compilation, here are some of my favorite patterns:
1. Hats and Scarves: Center Square Hat - Super quick and easy fair isle hat using worsted weight yarn held double. You can make a whole stack of these in all different color combinations.
2. Shawls and Wraps: Forest Canopy Shawl - Simple and beautiful lace pattern. Works great with different yarn weights. Not a free pattern, but it’s very well written and fairly priced.
3. Hands and Feet: Thuja Socks - Great simple pattern knit that lets you show off even very busy-looking variegated yarns. It calls for a DK-ish weight yarn, but is pretty easily up- or down-sized for different yarn weights.
4. Bags and Purses: Fulled Lopi Tote - Very cute bag that’s easy to knit and only takes two balls of Lopi or some other bulky feltable yarn. I’ve used Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Bulky and it works great!
5. Other: Ridge and Eyelet Dishcloth - This pattern is free, though you do have to sign in at the Sugar ‘n Cream site. It’s an easy, pretty pattern.
6. Other: Baby Bobbi Bear - Not a free pattern, but it’s so cute and clever, I think it’s worth the price! There is a correction to the ear instructions on the Blue Sky website so be sure to check that out. Also, it says you need 3 balls of Organic Cotton, but I found you can knit one bear with 1 ½ balls, so 3 balls will actually make you two bears!
