BlogDay 2006

Happy BlogDay 2006! What? You didn’t know it was BlogDay? Yes, according to Nir Ofir, BlogDay Founder, August 31st is BlogDay. What do you mean you don’t know what BlogDay is? You’re pulling my leg, right? Seriously? Okay. Okay. Well, according to the BlogDay 2006 website…

BlogDay was created with the belief that bloggers should have one day dedicated to getting to know other bloggers from other countries and areas of interest. On this day every blogger will post a recommendation of 5 new blogs. In this way, all Blog web surfers will find themselves leaping around and discovering new, previously unknown blogs.

So with that said, here are my five BlogDay 2006 Bloggers - enjoy!

  1. Stuck On Socks
  2. Tales of a Fat Girl
  3. Pickled Tink
  4. Glovebox Sandwiches
  5. Green Apple Martini

Countdown Timer

When I saw the countdown timer that Dani had, and I saw that she’d posted the release date for the next Harry Potter movie, I decided I wanted a countdown timer too. I know, I know - I’m a copycat, but I’m a copycat that absolutely loves Harry Potter. What can I say?

Anyhow, I finally found my countdown timer at sothq.net. It’s easy to install and easy to use. Check it out and start counting down to your favorite days!

Ballband Dishcloth Started

Thumbnail

I’m working on a new dishcloth. What do you think? It’s the Ballband Dishcloth from the Mason-Dixon Knitting book. I’m using Peaches & Creme cotton in Yellow and Gumdrops. It’s really a fun dishcloth to knit, not at all boring, and I really like how it looks. I’d have to give this pattern 5 stars and 2 thumbs up - or something like that.

In other Procrastiknitter news, I’m changing the layout around here, so things may seem a bit wonky now and then. I’ve gone from my old olivey-retro look to a cleaner, more-organized look, but I’m not done yet. I really like both themes, so I’m going to work on combining them together. I’m not the greatest when it comes to CSS though, so it may take me some time - maybe a lot of time.

By the way, have you seen the Online Color Schemer and Color Schemer Gallery? I think they could both come in very handy for those people interested in changing their weblogs or… or… (ready?)… planning out a knitting project! I’ve seen a few color combinations that would make an awesome blanket. All you’d have to do is pick a color scheme and then find the yarn you’d need to match the scheme you’ve chosen. Check it out and you’ll see what I mean. Enjoy!

Saturday Sky 08/26/06

Link: Saturday Sky

Everywhere I turn I see Saturday Sky and well, to be honest with you, I think it’s kinda neat to see what everyone else is seeing - especially when what they’re seeing may be different from what I’m seeing - you see? Anyhow, I thought I’d join in on the fun although, as you can see, it’s a dreary day here in Central New York. I won’t complain. We’ve had some beautiful weather around here lately, so a little bit of grey today can’t hurt.

What is Your Life Path Number?

Thanks to Jen and Marguerite, I found this quiz.

Hope’s Life Path Number is 8: Your purpose in life is to help others succeed. You are both a natural leader and a natural success. You are also a great judge of character. You have a head for business and finance. You know how to make money. A great visionary, you can see gold where other people see nothing. In love, you are very generous - with gifts, time, and guidance. You love to inspire people, but it can be frustrating when they don’t understand your vision. Great success comes easily for you. But so does great failure, as you are very reckless. You are confident, and sometimes this confidence borders on arrogance.

Umm… maybe? Actually, I don’t think it sounds at all like me. While I do think I’m a decent judge of character, and I do admit to being arrogant at times, I don’t think I’m a visionary or a natural leader. Actually, the above sounds more like my husband, which is funny, because his outcome sounds more like me.

Tom’s Life Path Number is 5: Your purpose in life is to live freely and collect experiences. You love life - new adventures, new people, new ideas. You are very curious, and you crave novelty in all forms. You tend to make friends easily, and you enjoy the company of all types of people. In love, you are fun and even a bit intoxicating. But you won’t stick around for long. You are impulsive and spontaneous - which sometimes leads you to do things you regret. Sometimes you can be overindulgent with food, sex, or drugs. You have many talents, so many that you are often scattered and unfocused.

I think my darling husband and I were both born on the wrong day. Perhaps we should swap birthdates? While we’re doing that, how about taking the What is your Life Path Number quiz. Maybe you’ll have a more accurate outcome than we did. Enjoy!

Northern Sunshine Designs

Have you seen the sock patterns at Northern Sunshine Designs? They are absolutely beautiful and, in my opinion, very reasonably priced. Right now there’s a Summer Sale going on - buy 2 patterns, get 2 free. Of course you know what that means. Yes, it means that I had to buy two patterns. I ordered Cedar Bark and Green Oats. For freebies, I asked for Waterfalls and Aspen. I’ve ordered Darlene’s patterns before, so I know I’ll be pleased with them. You should really check out Northern Sunshine Designs. I’m pretty sure you’ll like what you see.

Oh, and by the way, while you’re out there you should also check out the Apple Laine Yarn. The MacIntosh and the Godiva are simply scrumptious! I love the Garden Party too. I’ve never tried this brand of yarn, but I’m seriously considering getting a couple of skeins after our finances recover from school shopping. Maybe I’ll make it a birthday present to myself in October - something fun to look forward to.

10:41 PM Update

Link: Sock-ret Pal

It’s amazing at how fast a mood can improve. I received an e-mail from Rachel about the Sockret Pal exchange - I’m all signed-up and ready to participate! Now I’m all excited and happy and stuff. Yay!

You should really consider signing-up too. It’ll be fun! C’mon!

Hot and Headachey

It’s been a long day.

Wait. Let me rephrase that.

It’s been a very long day.

I’m hot. I’m tired. My feet hurt. I’m whiney (obviously). I want bedtime to get here soon. A nice cool shower and a soft comfortable bed both sound exquisite to me.

We went school shopping today. Omigoodness. The cost of things like notebooks and binders is ridiculous. It’s one thing to spend a fortune on clothes and shoes - I expect that and, in a way, even look forward to seeing the kids all decked out in some new outfits - but spending half of what’s in my wallet on paper and pens? Pitiful. Absolutely pitiful. Even worse, I know all of these fancy schmancy binders, spiral notebooks, and folders that each teacher requires will be used up or ruined by Christmas time. <sigh>

You know, I have to wonder - why can’t the teachers get together and come up with a reasonable list of goodies for each student to purchase? I mean, can’t a 2-inch binder be used for more than one class? Whatever happened to 5-subject notebooks being used for, well, five subjects? And how in the world do you expect my kid to carry and store all of this crap in a locker that’s no wider than a shoebox? I just don’t get it.

Anyhow, on a happier note, I e-mailed Rachel and asked to be included in the Sockret Pal exchange. I’m hoping I’ll be able to join in on the fun and my lack of sock experience (still on my first pair of socks!) won’t scare them away. We shall see, I guess!

Oh! And I finished 10 more rows on my Booga Bag, so I only have 10 more rows to go before I start the I-cord. Woohoo! I’m getting there and I just may get it done before the end of August. I hope so!

Home Sweet Home

Well, we’re home and I’m finally back online. Other than checking my mail, I really haven’t done much of anything on the computer. All of that laundry that I did before we left for Canandaigua, well, it all needed to be redone. The house needed to be straightened up and we all needed time to get back into the swing of things. I think everything is finally feeling normal again.

As for my weblog, it seems to be working now. I’m not sure if there was a problem with the database or what, but some fiddling around seemed to fix things. Now we just have to hope it doesn’t happen again, because I may not be as lucky a fiddler next time.

On the knitting front, I didn’t get as much done as I planned. Instead of knitting, I did a whole lot of chatting with the other wives/moms who were there. I did, however, make some progress on my Booga Bag. I updated my sidebar - we went from 10% done to 50%. I really hope I can get the second half done within the next week or so. It would feel so good to get this project done!

Speaking of feeling good - Dorothy knew what she was talking about. There’s no place like home.
